School year:

Message from the Chairperson 2016-17

I am honoured to have been elected to serve as Chairperson of St. Stephen's Girls' College Parent Teacher Association (SSGC PTA) for the ensuing year. The then principal, Ms K D Cherry, first set up the SSGC PTA in 1951 and it is the oldest PTA amongst Hong Kong schools. I wish to thank the past Chairpersons and committees for generously devoting their time and effort to make the SSGC PTA as successful as it can be over the past 65 years. I and my fellow committee members will use our best endeavours to carry on the tradition of SSGC PTA and continue to facilitate effective communication and cooperation between teachers and parents for the benefit of our children.

Needless to say, the PTA will not be able to function without the support of teachers and parents. In the coming year, we will continue to organise activities such as uniform and book exchanges, other social services etc. These activities allow parents, teachers and students to foster their relationships whilst doing something meaningful. If any parent has any new activities ideas, we would love to receive suggestions.

2016 marks an important milestone for SSGC, celebrating its 110th anniversary through big events including the bazaar in January, the concert in September, the reunion cup sports day in October, and our eagerly awaited celebration dinner in December. We brought and will bring together friends and families of all those connected with the School. I am pleased that these activities have the great support of teachers, parents and students. We also formally kick-started our 3-year initiative to raise funds for the School earlier this year. Some of the funds raised so far have already been applied for the benefit of our children. We hope we will have parents' continued support to help the School reach its goal at the end of the 3 years to enable the School to implement its plan to create a better learning environment for our children.

Last but not least, my special thanks go to our 3 principals, Ms Chau, Ms Or and Ms Chiu and the immediate past 3 Chairpersons, Ms Carmen Wong, Ms Clara Lau and Ms Rebecca Niem for their guidance and their continued support of the work of the PTA. I am pleased that Ms Wong, Ms Lau and Ms Niem have kindly agreed to stay on as advisors to the PTA.

I look forward to seeing you at the celebration dinner and future events organised by the PTA.

Cynthia Chung
PTA Chairperson 2016-17
